Both figures describe the same game from two directions, and they are independent of one another. A high rate says nothing about the spread, a low volatility nothing about the return.
What the rate does
It is an expected value across a very large number of rounds. Applied to a hundred spins it is close to meaningless; applied to a hundred thousand it describes the outcome fairly precisely. The span over which it holds is longer than any session.
What the volatility does
It describes how the outcome fluctuates around that average. Low volatility means many small hits and few outliers; high means long stretches without a hit and an occasional large one.
The calculation that matters in practice
Balance divided by stake per round gives the number of rounds. At high volatility it takes more rounds for anything to show — and therefore a smaller stake at the same balance. That is the only adjustment that does anything at all.
