A limit in your head gets renegotiated at the exact moment it is supposed to bite. A limit in the account does not. That is the whole difference, and it is larger than it sounds.
The four settings
| Deposit limit | per day, week or month; the most effective of the four |
|---|---|
| Loss limit | caps the net loss over the period |
| Session length | ends the session after a set time |
| Break or self-exclusion | from 24 hours to indefinite |

Why tightening takes effect at once and loosening does not
A stricter limit usually bites immediately; a looser one only after a waiting period, often twenty-four hours or more. That asymmetry is deliberate: it separates the decision from the moment in which it is hard to make.
When to set them
At sign-up, before anything has been played. Then it is a sober calculation and not an argument with yourself. Two clicks inside the account, usually under “settings” or “responsible play”.
And the break
Short breaks are the most underrated tool of the four: twenty-four hours with the account locked cost nothing and end any session that is getting out of hand. Where the settings sit and what the OASIS exclusion system is.
